The Road to El Dorado (2000): Animated City of Gold

Directed by Don Paul and Eric "Bibo" Bergeron, produced by Dreamworks, The Road to El Dorado (2000) presents an animated approach to treasure hunting, looting and adventure in the New World. Set in the 16th Century, two Spanish con-men win a treasure map pointing the way to a Mayan city of gold. They hide as stowaways on Hernan Cortes' ship bound for the New World, and venture off on their own to find El Dorado… and take as much gold as is greedily possible. Although the film did not fare well with critics, it is actually a solid and entertaining effort all-around. The voice actors do a great job, including Kenneth Branagh, Kevin Kline, Rosie Perez, Armand Assante, Edward James Olmos and Jim Cummings. Elton John provides some memorable music.
