Based on a 1952 novel of the same name, The Killer Inside Me (2010) is one of the most powerful of the "Neo-Noir" films to come out in recent years. Directed by Michael Winterbottom, stylish and with beautiful cinematography, the virtues of the film are overshadowed by the shocking, brutal violence depicted in it. Loyal to the Film Noir tradition, some surprising homage elements pop up, but new edgier moments still find their way in. The Killer Inside Me has a great cast including Casey Affleck, Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Ned Beatty, Bill Pullman and Elias Koteas. Worthy of repeat viewings, the harsh violence dissipates with the anesthetic of time.
