     Directed by Christopher Nolan, based on characters from DC Comics, The Dark Knight (2008) struck a chord and received acclaim from both audiences and critics. It is the second and best entry in The Dark Knight Trilogy.

     The plot is summarized: With the help of allies Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman (Christian Bale) has been able to keep a tight lid on crime in Gotham City. But when a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker (Heath Ledger) suddenly throws the town into chaos, the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism.

     The cast is great, including Christian Bale as Batman, Maggie Gyllenhaal (replacing Katie Holmes), Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart. However, released posthumously, the late Heath Ledger truly steals the show in his Academy Award nominated performance as the Joker.
