The Mummy (1999): Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Battle an Ancient Egyptian Curse

Written and directed by Stephen Sommers, very loosely based on the 1932 film starring Boris Karloff, The Mummy (1999) remake was originally intended to be part of a series of low-budget Horror films... but increased in scale to become a blockbuster adventure film reminiscent of Indiana Jones. The story concerns a group of treasure hunters in 1920's Egypt who awaken the mummy of Imhotep, releasing a horrific curse that had been subdued for 3,000 years. The CGI effects were quite innovative at the time, and still entertain 15 years later. Brendan Fraser is capable in the lead role. Rachel Weisz is beautiful in her part. The supporting cast is great as well, including Arnold Vosloo, Patricia, Velasquez and John Hannah.
