The Mummy Returns (2001): Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Are Back in Ancient Egypt
Written and directed by Stephen Sommers, The Mummy Returns (2001) was a fitting sequel to the 1999 hit, The Mummy. The story picks up several years after the last film left off, with the archaeologist couple still hunting in Ancient Egyptian tombs and getting mixed up with the cursed Imhotep once again... and a fierce ancient warrior called the Scorpion King. Fast action and special effects abound. The film inspired the spin-off production of The Scorpion King (2002) starring Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), reprising his brief role from this film. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are great as the leads. Patricia Velasquez, Arnold Vosloo and John Hannah are good in supporting roles.
