Arn: The Knight Templar (2007)

Directed by Peter Flinth, based on the books by Jan Guillou, Arn: The Knight Templar (2007) is powerful medieval epic with locales sweeping from the snowy battlefields of Sweden to the arid desert of the Holy Land. When a 12th Century young couple have a baby out of wedlock, they are sentenced to 20 years of penance… she is sent to a convent, he is dispatched to the Holy Land as a warrior in God's Army: The Knights Templar. Raw emotion, intense battles and historical details mix with good acting and writing. A grandiose cinematic achievement, the film is the most expensive Swedish production to date. The cast does a great job all-around, including Joakim Natterqvist as Arn Magnusson, Sofia Helin, Stellan Skarsgard, Simon Callow, Vincent Perez, Bibi Andersson, Michael Nyqvist and Milind Soman.
