The Best Offer (2013): Geoffrey Rush, Fine Art Auctions, Grand Estates and Deception

Written and directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, with a melodic musical score by Ennio Morricone, The Best Offer (2013) is a remarkable romantic mystery set in the world of high-end auctions of art and antiques. When an eccentric auctioneer is hired to evaluate the collection of an agoraphobic heiress, a bizarre connection is formed… and deceit is just around the bend. The scenes of the auctioneer's private treasure-trove of ill-gotten old master portraits hung floor-to-ceiling in a hidden room are marvelous… as is the set design and use of fine art as backdrop. The performances are great all-around, including Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess, Sylvia Hoeks and Donald Sutherland.
