Written and directed by Harold Cronk, Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy (2012) was later retitled for DVD distribution as The Adventures of Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Treasure, as Walmart retailers felt the term "treasure" would be better understood than "conspiracy" by a young audience. The story focuses on a young boy and his female friend, who must follow a series of clues left by his dead grandfather to prevent a group of Confederates from rebuilding an ancient mythical alchemy machine powered by three mystical elements that are hidden nearby. The far-fetched story borrows much from bigger-budget films like National Treasure, but maintains a charm of its own. The cast is hit or miss, with many B or C level actors filling crucial parts. Overall, they do a good job, including Derek Brandon, Francesca DeRosa, Patrika Darbo, Christopher Lloyd and Ernie Hudson.
