Directed by Yong-ki Jeong, and written by Park Jung-Woo, The Righteous Thief (2009) is an enjoyable Korean heist film that was also released under the alternate title of Descendants of Hong Gil Dong. The story concerns a mild, quiet high school music teacher… who has a secret life as a masked "Robin Hood" styled thief, descended from a long line of thieves, who makes a point of repeatedly stealing from a comic book obsessed megalomaniac millionaire. Although there are some daring acrobatics and fight sequences, the film is largely dialogue-based and focuses on interrelations between the characters. The cast does a good job, including Kim Do-Young, Kim Joo Hyuk, Ki-beom Jang, Eun-mi Ko and Hie-bong Jo.
