Directed by Alex Proyas, and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Gods of Egypt (2016) is a superb and enjoyable action CGI ancient epic that undeservedly met with harsh reviews from critics. The story concerns mortal hero-thief Bek, who teams up with the god Horus to battle the evil Set after he kills his brother Osiris, captures the throne and plunges once peaceful Egypt into chaos. It is intriguing to see such titans of Egyptian mythology portrayed on screen, including Thoth the god of Wisdom, Hathor, Anubis, the Sphinx, the sun god Ra and Isis (briefly). Dazzling effects and action sequences bring Ancient Egypt to life in an exciting and unique way. The cast does a decent job with the material, including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Courtney Eaton, Gerard Butler and Geoffrey Rush.
