Directed by David Batty, The Gospel of John (2014) offers a new take on the Biblical film genre in that it contains a word-by-word English reading of the Gospel running over the dialogue of the actors, who speak Aramaic. With versatility in spreading the message in mind, the film is available in two versions: Catholic and King James. The casting of the actors is different from the usual Hollywood treatment, with all the lesser-known players being of a distinctly middle eastern background. The cast does a good job, all around, including Selva Rasalingam as Jesus Christ.
