Directed by Desmond Davis, and written by Beverley Cross, Clash of the Titans (1981) was the final work of stop motion visual effects artist Ray Harryhausen. The effects are dated and seem hokey by today's standards, but were actually quite innovative at the time. The plot centers on Perseus, as he battles both Medusa and the Kraken in order to save the beautiful Andromeda. The care given in portraying the characters of Ancient Greek Mythology is admirable and entertaining. The all-star cast is wonderful, including Harry Hamlin as Perseus, Laurence Olivier as Zeus, Ursula Andress as Aphrodite, Judi Bowker, Maggie Smith, Claire Bloom and Burgess Meredith.
