Directed by Stephen Hopkins, The Reaping (2007) was met with widespread negative critical reviews upon it's release. Nevertheless, it does have a certain Cult appeal. The story concerns a former Christian missionary turned miracle investigator, sent to a small town in Louisiana to determine the cause of a series of mysterious happenings that resemble the Biblical Plagues. Good CGI effects mix with an overall interesting premise. Hilary Swank does a decent job in the lead role. The rest of the cast is hit or miss, including David Morrissey, Idris Elba, AnnaSophia Robb and Stephen Rea.
