Directed by Tobe Hooper, Poltergeist (1982) sparked terror in viewers and spawned a franchise. Steven Spielberg is credited as a writer/producer/editor, but many have speculated that he handled much of the directing on the film as well. The story concerns a family that finds themselves plagued by a brutal haunting in their home, a poltergeist that steals their young daughter. Real-life deaths of various cast and crew have led to the popular tale that the production was cursed. The cast is wonderful, including Craid T. Nelson, Heather O'Rourke, JoBeth Williams, Dominique Dunne and Zelda Rubinstein.
