The Hills Have Eyes (1977): Wes Craven's Deformed Cannibals in the Nevada Desert

Written and directed by Wes Craven, The Hills Have Eyes (1977) has become an influential Cult Classic, inspiring a new generation of Horror films, including the popular Wrong Turn franchise. The story focuses on a family whose car breaks down in the Nevada desert, and they find themselves fighting for their lives against a gang of deformed cannibals that live in the surrounding mountains. The film is crude and simple at times, but that's what makes it work. The action is tense and the suspense is unsettling. The cast is good, including Dee Wallace (who later played Eliot's mom in E.T.), Susan Lanier, Michael Berryman and Robert Houston. The Hills Have Eyes had a sequel in 1985, and was remade in 2006.
