The 39 Steps (1935): Alfred Hitchcock and Robert Donat

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, based on the novel by John Buchan, The 39 Steps (1935) has been intriguing audiences since it's release nearly 80 years ago. Supposedly, author J.D. Salinger was obsessed with the film's nuances and meaning. A tight Spy Thriller, the story focuses on a man, wrongly accused of murder, who must stop top secret information from getting leaked. The film is pitch-perfect from start to finish, never dull and always edgy. The 39 Steps is amongst the best of Hitchcock's British films. The cast is great, including Robert Donat, Madeleine Carroll, Lucie Mannheim and Godfrey Tearle.
