December 26, 1776: General George Washington led the Continental Army in the Battle of Trenton, a small but pivotal battle in the American Revolutionary War. Washington and his troops had crossed the icy Delaware River late on Christmas night and surrounded the enemy, capturing two-thirds of the Hessian force on the morning of the 26th.
