Directed by Terry Jones, Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) was and remains controversial… having been banned in some countries for decades due to accusations of blasphemy. This comedic satire focuses on a man named Brian in Judea, who happens to be born on the same day as Jesus Christ, and gets mistaken for the Messiah. The humor is quite edgy, but has a kind heart and is never overly insulting to religion. A memorable closing melody of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" is a fitting denouement. The whole cast is great, including Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam.
