The Goonies (1985): Adventure for Lost Pirate Treasure
Directed by Richard Donner, with a screenplay by Chris Columbus, The Goonies (1985) was based on a story idea by executive producer Steven Spielberg. The plot features a group of pre-teens in Astoria, Oregon. Desperate to save their homes from foreclosure, they discover a Spanish treasure map in their attic, and embark on a dangerous adventure to find the lost pirate treasure of One-Eyed Willy… whose legendary fortune-filled ship, the Inferno, was rumored to be trapped in a cave-in nearby in the 17th Century. Chased by killers and hindered by pirate booby traps, the youths maneuver every obstacle. The story is pure fun from start to finish, and the film remains amongst the most beloved of the 1980's. The cast does a wonderful job, including Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Anne Ramsey, Joe Pantoliano and Ke Huy Quan.
