Research: Worcester Art Museum "Then and Now" by Travis Simpkins. Update #43

-The first photo, from a Valentines Day dance in 1979, shows one of the many events that were held right on top of the Antioch Hunt mosaic in the Renaissance Court at the Worcester Art Museum. Earlier soirees took place without a buffer, directly on the ancient tesserae. By this point, however, the museum took the precaution of placing padding and a protective covering over the mosaic to lessen the impact of footsteps.
-This second Then & Now composition has been shared before, but a new reader asked if I would post an old photo of the main stairwell. This 1920 photo is one of the more dramatic views, looking south from the third floor landing across to the lower third floor galleries.
-The sketch depicts what I think is one of the most intriguing sculptures in the WAM collection: the slyly grinning Ancient Greek mixed archaic style "Colossal Female Head", most likely representing Aphrodite (510-480 B.C.), currently on display in the first floor Greek Gallery.
