Directed by Rob Cohen, and co-produced by Stephen Sommers, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) shifted focus from Ancient Egypt to the tombs of Ancient China. In ancient times, warlord Qin Shi Huang is double-crossed in his plot to become an immortal World Emperor. Huang and his army are cursed and buried as terra-cotta warriors beneath the desert sands. In 1946, Alex O'Connell, son of the previous two films' archaeologist adventurers, discovers the tomb of the Emperor and he is resurrected through torrid means. High flying karate action and stunning CGI effects make for a fast-paced two hours. The incorporation of the well-known army of terra-cotta warriors adds an interesting real-life archaeological element to the fanciful story. Brendan Fraser returns in the lead role. Maria Bello replaces Rachel Weisz as the female lead. Jet Li is great as the Emperor Qin Shi Huang. The supporting cast is good as well, including Michelle Yeoh, John Hannah and Luke Ford.
