Directed by Guy Ritchie, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011) was quickly approved as a sequel by studio executives after the huge success of the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes. The story, based on the characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, finds Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson pursuing Professor Moriarty across Europe in order to thwart his evil plan of World domination. Fast-paced action and visual style run throughout. An art connoisseur's nightmare transpires in the first act, when Sherlock Holmes hastily disposes of a bomb inside an Ancient Egyptian sarcophagus at a Fine Art auction. Robert Downey, Jr. is excellent as Sherlock Holmes. Jude Law is great as Dr. John Watson. Jared Harris is diabolical as Professor Moriarty. The supporting cast is good as well, including Naomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams.
