The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

     Directed by Andrew Adamson, based on the novel by C.S. Lewis, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005) is the first in a three part film adaptation series of The Chronicles of Narnia. The story concerns four young siblings, sent for safe shelter at a countryside Manor in World War II, who travel through a wardrobe to the fantasy land of Narnia and discover their destiny to free the realm with the aide of a mystical lion named Aslan. Philosophical undercurrents mix with magical medieval elements in this classic tale. The cast does a great job, including Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, William  Mosely, Anna Popplewell, Tilda Swinton, James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent and Liam Neeson.

Midnight in Paris (2011): Woody Allen and the 1920's Art Scene

     Written and directed by Woody Allen, Midnight in Paris (2011) is an imaginative masterwork which deservedly won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. The story focuses on a nostalgic screenwriter, on vacation in Paris with his fiancé, who finds himself traveling back in time to the 1920's each nigh at midnight. The Golden artistic Age of Paris in the 1920's in wonderfully recreated, with 20th Century artists and literary icons making appearances, including Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Gertrude Stein, Henri Matisse, Man Ray, Luis Bunuel, Cole Porter, Josephine Baker, Paul Gauguin, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Edgar Degas and T.S. Eliot. The film is magical from beginning to end. The cast does a great job, including Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux, Carla Bruni, Kathy Bates, Tom Hiddleston and Adrien Brody.
