Directed by Gore Verbinski, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) was the second film in the series based on the Disney theme park ride. The plot finds Jack Sparrow and crew plotting to steal the valuable locked-up heart of Davy Jones, which holds imminent control over the sea, to negotiate death warrants for piracy being served by British authorities. Though the story is fanciful and has supernatural elements, great attention to 18th Century detail was given in regards to the props, costumes and set design. Of particular note are the leaps and bounds made in the special effects compared to the first film. The CGI is artful and intense. The story picks up where the first film left off, with Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) still in embattled love, and also delves into Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) debt to Davy Jones (Bill Nighy). The supporting cast is great as well, including Tom Hollander and Stellan Skarsgard.
