Directed by Terence Fisher, Horror of Dracula (1958) was the first in a series of movies released by Hammer Films based on Bram Stoker's "Dracula"character. The original title for the film was simply Dracula, but was changed to avoid confusion with the Classic Universal Film starring Bela Lugosi. The plot of this film follows the standard Dracula tale, with some updates and twists. Christopher Lee is great as Count Dracula. Peter Cushing is excellent as Van Helsing. Michael Gough appears in a supporting role. The rest of the cast is good as well, including Melissa Stribling and Carol Marsh.
