Psychic Self-Defense. Dion Fortune. Occult. New Age. Magick
Psychic Self-Defense. Dion Fortune. Occult. New Age. Magick

I'm reading through "Psychic Self-Defense," Dion Fortune's classic text on how to protect oneself against paranormal malevolence.

After finding herself the subject of a powerful psychic attack in the 1930s, famed British occultist Dion Fortune wrote this detailed instruction manual on protecting oneself from paranormal attack. This classic psychic self-defense guide explains how to understand the signs of a psychic attack, vampirism, hauntings, and methods of defense.

Everything you need to know about the methods, motives, and physical aspects of a psychic attack and how to overcome it is here, along with a look at the role psychic elements play in mental illness and how to recognize them.

This is one of the best guides to detection and defense against psychic attack from one of the leading occult writers of the twentieth century.

The Vampire Bat (1933): Fay Wray and Melvyn Douglas

Directed by Frank R. Strayer, The Vampire Bat (1933) was Majestic Pictures' low-budget answer to the Universal Studios Monster films. Released during the Great Depression, Majestic Pictures knew how to get a good look without paying the upfront price... The Vampire Bat used many of the sets left over from Universal's films, Frankenstein (1931) and The Old Dark House (1932). The story focuses on a town in which people are dying of blood loss... and locals are rushed to conclude that a vampire must be responsible. The cast is good, including the original "Scream Queen" Fay Wray, Melvyn Douglas and Lionel Atwill.

The Hunger (1983): David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve

Although poorly received upon it's release, The Hunger (1983) has developed a sort of Cult following over the past 30 years. Stylish and atmospheric, full of cool tones and creative use of the camera, the film announced the directorial debut of Tony Scott (and due to Mr. Scott's August 19, 2012 suicide, the film with surely gain renewed attention). The regal, elegant, sexy and ageless Catherine Deneuve and the similar attribute-holding David Bowie are erotically wonderful together, and Susan Sarandon does a fine job as well. Overall, The Hunger is a solid effort... but it is mainly Deneuve's beauty and Scott's style that make it all worthwhile.
When the beautiful, immortal vampire Miriam Blaylock (Catherine Deneuve) met John (David Bowie) in 18th Century France, she bit him and promised him eternal life. Now, two hundred years later, the vampire couple are living in a stately New York City Townhouse...

John is noticing a tragic new problem, however. When Miriam promised eternal life, she was misleading, as eternal youth was not part of the bargain...

The Hunger. 1983: Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie

John begins aging rapidly, decades over the course of a day. Desperate, he seeks help from Dr. Sarah Roberts (Suasan Sarandon), an age expert. Roberts thinks it is a hoax, however, and dismisses John as crazy. He withers and Miriam must place him aside, left to live in an eternal crumbling state...

Miriam must move on to her next lover now. When Dr. Roberts realizes her error in ignoring John, she comes calling, concerned, and willing to make amends...

This sets off a whole new erotic impulse in Miriam...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992): Kristy Swanson

Cult Classics are born of off-kilt elements, not fitting into any one specific category, they often forge their own. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) is a romantic-comedy-horror film that was panned upon it's release, but has grown in popularity... partly based on the success of a TV show with the same name and themes. The film is not a masterpiece by any means, but it is not short of redeemable aspects either. Kristy Swanson is gorgeous as Buffy, and obviously worked out a lot for the part. She is a better actress than she is given credit for. Rutger Hauer is good as the head vampire. Donald Sutherland is great as always. Even future Oscars winners Ben Affleck and Hilary Swank make appearances. It is Paul Reubens, however, that steals the show. His role as Amilyn was the first time he had appeared as a character other than Pee Wee Herman on film. His talent is impeccable.
Buffy (Kristy Swanson) is a typical high school cheerleader. She is somewhat shallow, loves shopping and dreams of one day marrying Christian Slater...

That is, until she meets Merrick (Donald Sutherland) who informs her that she is from a long line of females that share the same fate: to kill vampires...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 1992: Kristy Swanson

Naturally, Buffy is skeptical and apprehensive about the idea...

Merrick takes her to a Graveyard, where his words are proven correct, and they are attacked by vampires...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 1992: Kristy Swanson

Buffy now realizes what she must do, and that it is her destiny to kill the head vampire, Lothos (Rutger Hauer). She is ready to kick some vampire butt...

She has help from Pike (Luke Perry), her new unlikely squeeze, but other hurdles must be passed, like Amilyn (Paul Reubens), Lothos' right hand vampire...

Can Buffy kills all these fiends and rid the world of vampires...
