Directed by Nils Gaup, and written by Ravn Lanesskog, The Last King (2016) originally titled Birkebeineme is loosely based on historic events. In 1206 A.D., Norway is torn between warring factions and the dying King enlists the help of two men to protect his illegitimate infant son, the rightful heir to the throne. Wonderful medieval period details create the perfect atmosphere and the ski chases through the snowy winter landscape are intense. The cast of Norwegian actors is superb all-around.
