Morning Star (2014)

Directed by Luca Boni and Marco Ristori, Morning Star (2014) is a cerebral horror/drama that aims high but doesn't quite hit the mark. The story concerns a weary warrior that must face black magic and eery danger on a long journey to fulfill a promise to carry his dead comrade home for burial. The overall premise is clever, but the shaky camera work and unskilled performances don't carry it all the way through to fruition. Not great, but not bad either. The medieval atmosphere is nicely portrayed, though. The cast consists mostly of unknowns.
