Directed by Brian De Palma, Carrie (1976) was the first film adaptation of a novel by Stephen King. The story focuses on an awkward, sheltered teenage girl with telekinetic powers... and the terrifying havoc she wreaks when she is made the victim of a cruel prank at Senior Prom. De Palma's direction and visual style lends itself well to the material. Sissy Spacek shines in a star-making, career-defining performance. The supporting cast is good as well, including Piper Laurie, Nancy Allen and John Travolta.
