Directed by Kimberly Peirce, based on the novel by Stephen King, Carrie (2013) is a remake of Brian De Palma's 1976 Horror Classic. The story concerns a sheltered and awkward girl with telekinetic powers, who is bullied at school, and exacts a horrific and murderous revenge at senior prom after she becomes the victim of a cruel prank. This version adds updated details, like the use of cell phone video and internet posts in bullying. Chloe Grace Moretz is beautiful in her role as Carrie (perhaps a bit too pretty for the part), and does a fine job with the material. Julianne Moore is frightening as her religious fanatic mother. The supporting cast is good as well, including Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, Gabriella Wilde and Ansel Elgort.

Directed by Fritz Kiersch, based on the 1977 short story, Stephen King's Children of the Corn (1984) is a supernatural Horror Classic. The story concerns a group of children, brainwashed by a creepy demon-worshipping child preacher, who kill all the adults in their small Nebraska farm town… and bring death to any outside grown-ups who enter their domain. Chilling and vibrant, the cinematography captures the blood-soaked farmland. The performances are good, including Linda Hamilton, Peter Horton, R.G. Armstrong, John Franklin and Courtney Gains.
Directed by Brian De Palma, Carrie (1976) was the first film adaptation of a novel by Stephen King. The story focuses on an awkward, sheltered teenage girl with telekinetic powers... and the terrifying havoc she wreaks when she is made the victim of a cruel prank at Senior Prom. De Palma's direction and visual style lends itself well to the material. Sissy Spacek shines in a star-making, career-defining performance. The supporting cast is good as well, including Piper Laurie, Nancy Allen and John Travolta.
Co-written, produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick, re-worked from the novel by Stephen King, The Shining (1980) is a true Horror masterpiece. The chilling story focuses on a man, hired as the winter caretaker at a remote Colorado hotel, and his family who tag along... and the terror that ensues as the man unravels into a murderous rage brought on by isolation and the haunting force of the hotel itself. With heavy use of the "steady-cam" and rolling track shots through the cavernous hotel spaces, the camera becomes very much a character in the film as well, under Kubrick's masterful direction. The cast is superb, including Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Scatman Crothers.
