Written and directed by Tommy Wirkola, and produced for MTV Films, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) flopped with mainstream critics, but faired well with fans of the offbeat Horror genre. Hansel and Gretel, the two children protagonists in the famous German folklore fairy tale, grow up to become professional witch hunters. Brutal violence meets imaginative aesthetics in an adult horror fairytale. Stylized sets of an alternate medieval view provide an interesting historical-esque backdrop for the fantasy weaponry and magic. Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as Hansel and Gretel. Famke Janssen is the evil grand witch. Peter Stormare, Pihla Viitala and Thomas Mann co-star.
