Stardust (2007): Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer, a Fallen Star and Magical Fantasy

Directed by Matthew Vaughn, based on the story by Neil Gaiman, Stardust (2007) is inventive, entertaining and underrated. The story concerns a young man in a town bordering on a magical land, who vows to venture off and retrieve a fallen star for his beloved. Full of interesting characters and magical effects, the film is dazzling to the senses. The cast does a great job, including Claire Danes as the Fallen Star Yvaine, Michelle Pfeiffer as the Dark Queen of the Witches, Robert De Niro, Sienna Miller, Charlie Cox, Mark Strong, Rupert Everett and Peter O'Toole.

Directed by Kevin Reynolds, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) is a sweeping Medieval epic of love, loss, war and redemption. The story centers on Robin of Locksley's return to England after the Holy Crusades, where he find his country oppressed by the sadistic Sheriff of Nottingham. Shot on location in The United Kingdom and France, the medieval battles are intense and the scenery is perfectly beautiful. Kevin Costner is excellent as Robin Hood. Morgan Freeman is his Moorish friend, Azeem. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in the lovely Maid Marian. Alan Rickman is the cold Sheriff of Nottingham. Christian Slater is Will Scarlet, and Sean Connery appears briefly as King Richard.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975): King Arthur and Comedy

Directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones, Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) was conceived between the 3rd and 4th season of the hit TV show Monty Python's Flying Circus. The story concerns King Arthur and his quest for the Holy Grail, aided by his knights of Camelot. One memorable scene follows another, and the film is funny throughout. The whole cast is fantastic, including Terry Gilliam, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Eric Idle.
