Directed by Simon Wells, Brenda Chapman and Steve Hickner, The Prince of Egypt (1998) was produced by DreamWorks Pictures. Based on the Biblical Book of Exodus, the story follows Moses… a Hebrew baby set adrift on the Nile and adopted by the Pharaoh, raised as his son, a Prince of Egypt. When Moses learns the truth of his origin, God commands him to tell Pharaoh to set his Hebrew slaves free. When Ramses refuses, the resulting plagues and miracles are wonders of animation… from turning the Nile to blood, to the parting of the Red Sea. The depictions of the back-breaking slave labor used in constructing the Ancient Egyptian monuments is palpable. The artists did a fine job in rendering the ancient world with style and fitting grace. The voice actors do a great job, including Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Patrick Stewart, Danny Gover, Steve Martin and Martin Short.
