Arlo Guthrie, Alice's Restaurant and Thanksgiving. by Travis Simpkins

Arlo Guthie, Alice's Restaurant and Thanksgiving. by Travis Simpkins

53 years ago on Thanksgiving day in 1965: Arlo Guthrie visited his friends, Ray and Alice, for a "Thanksgiving dinner that couldn't be beat" at their deconsecrated church in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. Arlo's disposal of the church's large accumulation of garbage off a nearby roadside, and subsequent arrest for littering, served as the inspiration for his well-known song "Alice's Restaurant." It was also later adapted into a film.
