Little Big Man (1970): Dustin Hoffman and Faye Dunaway

Directed by Arthur Penn, based on the novel by Thomas Berger, Little Big Man (1970) provided a fresh look to the Western genre. The story concerns the life of Jack Crabb, a 121 year old survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn, who recalls his tall tales with comedic style. With typical Penn fast-cuts and visual style, the cinematography is excellent and the story is thoroughly compelling. The protagonist meets all sorts of Old West characters, including Wild Bill Hickok and General George Custer. The cast is great, including Dustin Hoffman (who plays a staggering range of ages), Faye Dunaway, Martin Balsam, Chief Dan George and Richard Mulligan.
