Museum of Masonic Culture. Grand Lodge of New Jersey. Charles Visscher Portrait by Travis Simpkins

Museum of Masonic Culture. Grand Lodge of New Jersey. Charles Visscher portrait by Travis Simpkins

I greatly enjoyed my visit to the Grand Lodge of New Jersey this past weekend. One of the highlights was touring their Museum of Masonic Culture and seeing my portrait of Charles D. Visscher, the museum's original curator, displayed at the gallery entrance. The Visscher family continues to do a wonderful job of preserving and presenting this eclectic collection for posterity. The objects on display are all-inclusive, with everything from Blue Lodge, York and Scottish Rite (including Prince Hall) to Eastern Star and DeMolay groups represented.

The Grand Lodge is located in the historic section of Trenton, New Jersey. In addition to the current Temple, the original 1793 Grand Lodge building is also on the property and George Washington's old barracks (built in 1758) is located across the street as well. It is well worth the trip.
