Interweaving the past and present, The Lost Treasure of the Templars by James Becker is a fast paced adventure with some interesting surprises. The story centers on a book store owner and a researcher, who find themselves targeted by assassins after they unlock (literally) a secret hidden within a medieval book safe. Encrypted clues lead them on a far-reaching and hectic path in search of a legendary treasure left by the Knights Templar after their fortifications in the Holy Land were lost by siege. The book would have been much more entertaining if more emphasis had been placed on Templar history. As is stands, the book is 20% Templars and 80% car chases. Also, the cliffhanger ending after 500 pages of reading is a bit frustrating. However, all in all, the book is a decent effort representing a popular subject.
