Ancient Egyptian Myths and Legends. Lewis Spence

Ancient Egyptian Myths and Legends. Lewis Spence
Ancient Egyptian Myths and Legends. Lewis Spence

"Ancient Egyptian Myths and Legends" by Lewis Spence is a Classic, originally published in 1915. Some of Spence's ideas are a bit dated at this point, but I still enjoy his works.

A prolific compiler of mythology, Lewis Spence would author over thirty books on the legends and folklore of numerous parts of the world. As the title would suggest, in this edition we have a collection of ancient Egyptian myths and legends. Spence examines the history and culture of Egypt with particular attention to its influence on their belief systems. Various Egyptian gods including Osiris, Isis, Anubis, Ra, as well as many others are discussed in length along with the myths associated with them. Popular fables such as "The Story of the Shipwrecked Sailor" and the "Story of Two Brothers", are included in a selection of legends. Lastly the work talks of the practice of magic in ancient Egypt and of foreign and animal gods. This collection of ancient Egyptian myths and legends spans the gamut of such literature and should make for an interesting read for anyone interested in the subject.

Ancient Egyptian Mysticism. John Van Auken. Edgar Cayce. Psychic Readings

Ancient Egyptian Mysticism. John Van Auken. Edgar Cayce. Psychic Readings
Ancient Egyptian Mysticism. John Van Auken. Edgar Cayce. Psychic Readings

I'm reading through "Ancient Egyptian Mysticism and its Relevance Today" by John Van Auken. Published by the Association for Research and Enlightenment, this book centers on Mysticism in Ancient Egypt as perceived through the clairvoyant readings of Edgar Cayce.

From the creation story to the mythological tales of the gods of Egypt, the author weaves together the wisdom of ancient Egypt with insights from the Edgar Cayce readings. Van Auken explores the secrets of the Great Pyramid and the hidden mysteries of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, and recounts the story of Ra Ta (Edgar Cayces earlier life as a high priest of Egypt), including the events that, according to Cayce, led to the building of the Great Pyramid as a place of initiation. Also covered is the expected discovery of the Hall of Records predicted by Cayce.

The Egyptian Rituals. Florence Farr. Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Holythorn Press

The Egyptian Rituals. Florence Farr. Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn
The Egyptian Rituals. Florence Farr. Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn

I checked the mail and was happy to see a package from Holythorn Press in England. This book of Florence Farr's Golden Dawn era "Egyptian Rituals" is small yet impressive. From what I understand, these particular initiatory ceremonies have never been published before. This was transcribed from the only known handwritten copy. Nicely printed, quality paper. The first run was limited to 250 copies. Mine is #211, so if it isn't sold out already, it will be soon. Thanks to Dr. Richard Kaczynski for the tip, I might not have known about it otherwise.

Early in 2020, I was contacted by Cartem Publishers in Spain and was asked to be a contributor to an edition of the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead. Dr. Zahi Hawass (probably the most famous archaeologist in the world) was involved as well and he wrote the introduction. My work was to pay tribute to Sir E.A. Wallis Budge, former Keeper of Antiquities at the British Museum and translator of the most commonly published text of the Papyrus of Ani (Book of the Dead). I am proud to see the end result and am honored to have been invited. This project was organized in collaboration with the British Museum, which owns the papyrus. It was a pleasure to work with the editorial staff in Madrid. This large book, a study guide for the papyrus facsimile, turned out beautifully (hardcover, 7 lbs, 536 pages, 390 images). For those unfamiliar, the Book of the Dead consists of a corpus of incantations, magical words and spells, designed to assist the deceased on their journey through the Duat (underworld/afterlife). It is one of the most important texts of the ancient world.

The study guide book can be purchased here:
