     Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) was an instant hit and was followed about a year later by Kill Bill: Volume 2. The studio had decided to split the epic film into two installments, otherwise the overall length would have clocked in at 4 hours. The film is an artful masterpiece, paying homage to both the Martial Arts and Spaghetti Western genres.

      The plot is summarized: A former assassin, known simply as The Bride (Uma Thurman), wakes from a coma four years after her jealous ex-lover Bill (David Carradine) attempts to murder her on her wedding day. Fueled by an insatiable desire for revenge, she vows to get even with every person who contributed to the loss of her unborn child, her entire wedding party, and four years of her life. After devising a hit list,     The Bride sets off on her quest, enduring unspeakable injury and unscrupulous enemies.

     The cast is great all around, including Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Michael Madsen, Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox and Daryl Hannah.

Django Unchained (2012): Quentin Tarantino, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio

     Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained (2012) captured the minds of both audiences and critics with it's sweeping Western tale of revenge. Set in the antebellum South, the story focuses on a freed slave who teams up with a cold bounty hunter to rescue his enslaved wife from a cruel plantation owner. The film took home some Academy Awards, including Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Christoph Waltz). Bloody and violent, the film does not push the limits of gore as far as Tarantino's previous work, and is admirable in it's restraint. Django Unchained is a visual marvel, and benefits from repeat viewings. The cast is fantastic, including Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington, Michael Parks, Jonah Hill and Don Johnson.

Reservoir Dogs (1992): Quentin Tarantino's Stylish Debut

     Written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, Reservoir Dogs (1992) marked the stylish directorial debut of the filmmaker that would transform modern cinema. The dialogue-heavy story is told out of sequence and served as an exercise for future efforts, as well as a solid film in it's own right. A group of thieves involved in a botched diamond heist must figure out which one of them is the rat that tipped off the police. Double-crossing and violence mix together in the expertly written script. From discussing the meaning of Madonna's "Like a Virgin" to hacking off an ear with a razor blade, the plot stays current and catches viewers off-guard. The cast is superb, including Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Steve Buscemi, Michael Madsen, Chris Penn, Lawrence Tierney and Quentin Tarantino himself.
