The Mummy (2017): Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanet

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy (2017) is a superb reboot of the classic Universal Studios Monster franchise with a modern twist. While digging a subway tunnel in London, workers discover the underground mausoleum of crusading Knights Templar, containing a secret that leads to the discovery of the hidden and cursed tomb of Princess Ahmanet in the faraway desert. Ancient Egyptian flare mixes with great CGI effects to form an entertaining spectacle. The cast does great job, including Tom Cruise in the lead role, Sofia Boutella as Princess Ahmanet, Annabelle Wallis and Russell Crowe.

The Last Samurai (2003): Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe in 1870's Japan

Directed by Edward Zwick, based on a story by John Logan, The Last Samurai (2003) is a fictionalized historical epic that centers on the rebellion against the Westernization of Japan in 1877. A retired U.S. Army Captain finds himself in Japan, brought in contact with Samurai warriors preparing for battle against the Imperial army. Wonderful fight scenes and beautiful cinematography make the film visually stunning throughout. The cast does a good job all-around, including Tom Cruise, Ken Watanabe, Billy Connolly, Tony Goldwyn and Koyuki.
