Directed by William A. Wellman, Thunderbirds (1942) was made as propaganda to boost morale during World War II. The story concerns an aging American pilot and a young British soldier at a flight training academy fighting over the same girl. Shot in Technicolor and on location at an Arizona airbase, the cinematography and scenes capturing planes in flight are amazing. Gene Tierney, one of the most beautiful actresses ever filmed, is breathtaking as always... her lovely visage lighting up the screen in gorgeous color. The supporting cast is good as well, including Preston Foster, Dame May Whitty, John Sutton and Jack Holt.
