A remake of Tobe Hooper's 1974 Horror Classic of the same name, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) was the first in a series of remakes by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company, based on low-budget horror films from the 1970's and 1980's. The film has it's pros and cons. As is the nature of any remake, it lacks a bit in terms of originality, but has some new twists. While the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre sought to show violence by implication... this 2003 remake is violent, gruesome and gory in it's murderous depictions. The cinematography is great, with the use of grainy, muted hues nicely conveying the necessary atmosphere. Jessica Biel is the real star of the picture, handling the material well.
