The latest issue of The Northern Light, the magazine of the Scottish Rite NMJ, was just published.

My work is featured on pages 10 and 11. Page 10 has the NMJ memorial portraits I made of William Holland, 33° and Stephen Whittaker, 33°. Page 11 is assigned to the SJ and notes my work for "Chips from the Quarry." The Wizard of Oz project required a lot of effort all around, so I'm glad to see that one getting some extra mileage here.

Thanks to the Valley of Dayton and the Valley of Columbus for choosing to run "Chips from the Quarry" in their magazines. I just received copies of the latest publications from both Valleys. I heard from my Editor at the Scottish Rite Journal today and he said a Masonic publication in England has opted to run the column as well. Gaining momentum.

Travis Simpkins Joins Scottish Rite Journal as Artist for "Chips from the Quarry"

Scottish Rite Journal. July/August 2021. Chips from the Quarry. Art by Travis Simpkins
Scottish Rite Journal. July/August 2021. Chips from the Quarry. Art by Travis Simpkins

Earlier this year, S. Brent Morris, 33°, GC offered me a regular spot in the Scottish Rite Journal, taking over the long-running “Chips from the Quarry” feature in the magazine (the previous artist, a Brother from Canada, has retired). The first issue to include my artwork (July/August 2021) was just published. Each “Chips from the Quarry” feature will have a different theme, this one is about Clergymen who were Masons.

It’s always a pleasure to help out and work with my friends in the Southern Jurisdiction. I have enjoyed the SJ’s various publications since becoming a Mason. I’ve contributed artwork to the Scottish Rite Research Society’s periodicals and the newly revived Masonic Book Club. It will be a fun adventure to be involved with the Scottish Rite Journal as well.
