An Invitation to the Secret Doctrine. H.P. Blavatsky. Theosophical Society

An Invitation to the Secret Doctrine. H.P. Blavatsky. Theosophical Society |
I'm enjoying "An Invitation to the Secret Doctrine" by H.P. Blavatsky.
For those who would like to explore the essence of The Secret Doctrine, or who have had difficulty penetrating its two large volumes, An Invitation to The Secret Doctrine should prove welcome. Based on Blavatsky's study suggestions given to her personal students, it is a succinct and appealing statement of the SD's principal teachings in her own words. Included are the Bowen notes of HPB's comments, relevant pages from The Secret Doctrine, photographs of HPB's manuscript, a historical account of 'The Writing of The Secret Doctrine' by Kirby Van Mater, and a glossary of terms.

John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age. Brian C. Wilson

John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age. Brian C. Wilson |
I'm reading through "John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age" by Brian C. Wilson.
John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age
follows the spiritual sojourn of John E. Fetzer, a Michigan business
tycoon. Born in 1901 and living most of his life in Kalamazoo, Fetzer
parlayed his first radio station into extensive holdings in broadcasting
and other enterprises, leading to his sole ownership of the Detroit
Tigers in 1961. By the time he died in 1991, Fetzer had been listed in Forbes
magazine as one of the four hundred wealthiest people in America. And
yet, business success was never enough for Fetzer―his deep spiritual
yearnings led him from the Christianity of his youth to a restless
exploration of metaphysical religions and movements ranging from
Spiritualism, Theosophy, Freemasonry, UFOology, and parapsychology, all
the way to the New Age as it blossomed in the 1980s.
Author Brian C. Wilson demonstrates how Fetzer's quest mirrored those of thousands of Americans who sought new ways of thinking and being in the ever-changing spiritual movements of the twentieth century. Over his lifetime, Fetzer's worldview continuously evolved, combining and recombining elements from dozens of traditions in a process he called "freedom of the spirit." Unlike most others who engaged in a similar process, Fetzer's synthesis can be documented step by step using extensive archival materials, providing readers with a remarkably rich and detailed roadmap through metaphysical America. The book also documents how Fetzer's wealth allowed him to institutionalize his spiritual vision into a thriving foundation―the Fetzer Institute―which was designed to carry his insights into the future in hopes that it would help catalyze a global spiritual transformation.
John E. Fetzer and the Quest for the New Age offers a window into the rich and complex history of metaphysical religions in the Midwest and the United States at large. It will be read with interest by those wishing to learn more about this enigmatic Michigan figure, as well as those looking for an engaging introduction into America's rapidly shifting spiritual landscape.

The Monad. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society

The Monad. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society |
I'm enjoying "The Monad" by C.W. Leadbeater.
The information available on the subject of the Monad is necessarily scanty. We are not at present in a position to supplement it to any great extent; but a statement of the case, as far as it is at present comprehended among us, may save students some misapprehensions, such as are often manifested in the questions sent in to us. That many misconceptions should exist on such a subject is inevitable, because we are trying to understand with the physical brain what can by no possibility be expressed in terms intelligible to that brain. The Monad inhabits the second plane of our set of planes—that which used to be called the paranirvanic or the anupadaka. It is not easy to attach in the mind any definite meaning to the word plane or world at such an altitude as this, because any attempt even to symbolize the relation of planes or worlds to one another demands a stupendous effort of the imagination in a direction with which we are wholly unfamiliar.

Ancient Mysteries and Modern Masonry. Collected Writings of Jewel P Lightfoot. Billy J Hamilton
![]() |
Ancient Mysteries and Modern Masonry. Collected Writings of Jewel P Lightfoot. Billy J Hamilton |
"Ancient Mysteries and Modern Masonry: The Collected Writings of Jewel P. Lightfoot" (Edited by Billy J. Hamilton) is one of the best Masonic books I've read in recent years.
Jewel P. Lightfoot. Former Attorney General of the State of Texas. Past Grand Master of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas. From humble beginnings in rural Arkansas, he worked to become an educated man who excelled in law and Freemasonry. He was a gentleman of his time, well-known as a scholar, public speaker, and Masonic philosopher.
This book contains Brother Lightfoot’s recently discovered speeches, essays, and personal notes. In these pages, he walks us through a journey of Masonic symbolism and customs originating in ancient Brahman practices, which were transmitted through the Chaldeans, Egyptians, Hebrews, and into Renaissance Europe. Brother Lightfoot touches upon common themes in mythology, shared words in multiple cultures, and the origin of measurements used in the Western world. Here we find what was in the early 20th century cutting-edge ideas in religion, sociology, linguistics, physics, and metaphysics. Lightfoot made these connections through a lifetime of study and connected the dots to create a linear narrative of a possible Masonic origin.
Billy Hamilton was initiated into Masonry in 1996 at Triangle Masonic Lodge No. 548 in Lawton, Oklahoma. He is the Worshipful Master of Texas Lodge of Research (2023-2024) and a Past Master of Fort Worth Masonic Lodge No. 148 in Fort Worth, Texas. A data analyst, he resides with his wife, Bette, in Fort Worth, Texas. Brother Hamilton has written articles for the Knights Templar Magazine, Fraternal Review, Journal of the Masonic Society, and other periodicals. He is a co-host of the Fort Worth Masonic Podcast and one of the organizers of Texas MasoniCon, an annual Masonic education and history conference.
