Introduction to Magic. Volume Two. The Path of Initiatic Wisdom. Julius Evola and the UR Group

Introduction to Magic. Volume Two. The Path of Initiatic Wisdom. Julius Evola and the UR Group
Introduction to Magic. Volume Two. The Path of Initiatic Wisdom. Julius Evola and the UR Group

I'm Enjoying the 2nd Volume of "Introduction to Magic: The Path of Initiatic Wisdom" by Julius Evola and the UR Group.

Authentic initiatic practices, rituals, and wisdom collected by the UR Group

• Shares a rigorous selection of initiatory exercises, including instructions for creating the diaphanous body of the Opus magicum, establishing initiatic consciousness after death, and the construction of magical chains (the enchained awareness of initiates)

• Offers studies of mystery traditions throughout history, presenting not only the principles themselves but also witnesses to them and their continual validity today

The “Gruppo di UR” was a group of Italian esotericists who collaborated from 1927 to 1929. The purpose of this group was to study and practice ancient rituals gleaned from the mystery traditions of the world, both East and West, in order to attain a state of superhuman consciousness and power to allow them to act magically on the world. They produced a monthly journal containing techniques for spiritual realization, accounts of personal experiences, translations of ancient texts, and original essays on esoteric topics. The group included a distinguished line-up of occultists, neo-pagans, freemasons, Anthroposophists, orientalists, poets, and members of high society. The prime movers of the group were Arturo Reghini (1878-1946), a Pythagorean mathematician and reviver of a spiritual Freemasonry, and Julius Evola (1898-1974), then a young philosopher with a precocious mastery of the esoteric doctrines of East and West. Many years later, in 1971, Evola gathered these essays into three volumes. Inner Traditions published Volume I in 2001, under the title Introduction to Magic: Rituals and Practical Techniques for the Magus.

This volume, the second in the series, complements the first one, yet they are not strictly sequential, and their contents can be read in any order. Volume II shares authentic initiatic wisdom and a rigorous selection of initiatory exercises, including instructions for creating the diaphanous body of the Opus magicum, establishing initiatic consciousness after death, and the construction of magical chains (the enchained awareness of initiates). It offers studies of mystery traditions throughout history, presenting not only the principles themselves but also witnesses to them and their continual validity today.

This series shows that the “Magic” of the UR Group meant an active and affirmative attitude toward individual development, handed down from a “primordial tradition” and discernable in alchemy, Hermetism, esoteric religious doctrines, indigenous practices, Tantra, Taoism, Buddhism, Vedanta, and the pagan mysteries of the West. Although some of the practical experiments demanded extraordinary efforts, both individual and collective, there is incalculable value here even for the less heroic, for merely reading these essays leaves a permanent mark on the reader.

Introduction to Magic. Volume One. Rituals and Practical Techniques for the Magus. Julius Evola and the UR Group
Introduction to Magic. Volume One. Rituals and Practical Techniques for the Magus. Julius Evola and the UR Group

I'm enjoying Volume One of "Introduction to Magic: Rituals and Practical Techniques for the Magus" by Julius Evola and the UR Group.

The rites, practices, and texts collected by the mysterious UR group for the use of aspiring mages.

• Rare Hermetic texts published in English for the first time.

• Includes instructions for developing psychic and magical powers.

In 1927 Julius Evola and other leading Italian intellectuals formed the mysterious UR group. Their goal: to bring their individual egos into a state of superhuman power and awareness in which they could act "magically" on the world. Their methods: the practice of ancient Tantric and Buddhist rituals and the study of rare Hermetic texts. So successful were they that rumors spread throughout Italy of the group's power, and Mussolini himself became quite fearful of them. Now for the first time in English Introduction to Magic collects the rites, practices, and knowledge of the UR group for the use of aspiring mages.

Included in Introduction to Magic are instructions for creating an etheric double, speaking words of power, using fragrances, interacting with entities, and creating a "magical chain." Among the arcane texts translated are the Tibetan teachings of the Thunderbolt Diamond Path, the Mithraic mystery cult's "Grand Papyrus of Paris," and the Greco-Egyptian magical text De Mysteriis. Anyone who has exhausted the possibilities of the mundane world and is ready to take the steps necessary to purify the soul in the light of knowledge and the fire of dedication will find a number of expert mentors here.

The Monad. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society
The Monad. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society

I'm enjoying "The Monad" by C.W. Leadbeater.

The information available on the subject of the Monad is necessarily scanty. We are not at present in a position to supplement it to any great extent; but a statement of the case, as far as it is at present comprehended among us, may save students some misapprehensions, such as are often manifested in the questions sent in to us. That many misconceptions should exist on such a subject is inevitable, because we are trying to understand with the physical brain what can by no possibility be expressed in terms intelligible to that brain. The Monad inhabits the second plane of our set of planes—that which used to be called the paranirvanic or the anupadaka. It is not easy to attach in the mind any definite meaning to the word plane or world at such an altitude as this, because any attempt even to symbolize the relation of planes or worlds to one another demands a stupendous effort of the imagination in a direction with which we are wholly unfamiliar.

Man, Visible and Invisible. C.W. Leadbeater. Aura. Theosophical Society

Man, Visible and Invisible. C.W. Leadbeater. Aura. Theosophical Society
Man, Visible and Invisible. C.W. Leadbeater. Aura. Theosophical Society

Originally published in 1902, "Man Visible and Invisible" by C.W. Leadbeater has become a classic Theosophical text on Clairvoyance and Auras.

This esoteric classic examines the invisible bodies of humans, showing how the colors of the aura change with different emotional states.

Long before the modern-day interest in clairvoyance, Leadbeater used his clairvoyant powers to probe the hidden dimensions of human beings. In this reprint of a classic, originally published in 1902, he presents his findings in an accessible way. By examining the invisible bodies of humans, he shows how the colors of the aura change with different emotional states. He also points out the hidden differences between humans and animals. The result is a book which emphasizes that we are more than just the physical body; we are actually a spark of the Divine.

Charles Webster Leadbeater (1847-1934) was a Church of England clergyman until he joined the Theosophical Society in 1883. He spent some years in Sri Lanka working for the revival of Buddhism, and later became the Presiding Bishop of the Liberal Catholic Church, which seeks to combine the preservation of the Catholic sacraments with the widest measure of freedom of thought and interpretation of the scriptures. He was a highly developed clairvoyant and the author of over thirty books on the spiritual life and on the psychic nature of man. He unfolded and perfected his own psychic faculties under the guidance of his Adept teacher and in 1893 began his clairvoyant investigations, on occasion collaborating with Annie Besant, the second President of the Theosophical Society. His worldwide lectures presented a new viewpoint to thousands of people.

The Celestine Prophecy. James Redfield

The Celestine Prophecy. James Redfield
The Celestine Prophecy. James Redfield

"The Celestine Prophecy" by James Redfield was published in the early 1990s and was an instant success. The content was a bit more timely in the years leading up to the Millennium, but the parable about an ancient manuscript containing world-changing spiritual insights is still relevant and thought provoking today.

You have never read a book like this before--a book that comes along once in a lifetime to change lives forever.

In the rain forests of Peru, an ancient manuscript has been discovered. Within its pages are 9 key insights into life itself -- insights each human being is predicted to grasp sequentially; one insight, then another, as we move toward a completely spiritual culture on Earth.
Drawing on ancient wisdom, it tells you how to make connections among the events happening in your life right now and lets you see what is going to happen to you in the years to come. The story it tells is a gripping one of adventure and discovery, but it is also a guidebook that has the power to crystallize your perceptions of why you are where you are in life and to direct your steps with a new energy and optimism as you head into tomorrow.

Praise for The Celestine Prophecy
"A gripping adventure story filled with intrigue, suspense, and spiritual revelations." - Commonwealth Journal

"A spiritual classic...a book to read and reread, to cherish, and to give to friends." - Joan Borysenko, PhD, author of Fire in the Soul

"In his inimitable style of great storytelling, Redfield opens us up to a world of insight, inspiration, synchronicity, and power." - Deepak Chopra

The Magick of Candle Burning. Gerina Dunwich. Occult. Divination. Wicca

The Magick of Candle Burning. Gerina Dunwich. Occult. Divination. Wicca
The Magick of Candle Burning. Gerina Dunwich. Occult. Divination. Wicca

Most of us, whether we realize it or not, utilize candles in a ritualistic sense for creating atmosphere in prayer and on special occasions. "The Magick of Candle Burning" by Gerina Dunwich offers a mystical and mindful approach to this ancient art, focusing on conscious color choice and methods of consecration.

Outlines the magical powers of candles, and explains the rituals, omens, and superstitions connected with them.

Gerina Dunwich was born on December 27, 1959. After discovering at a very young age that she possessed certain psychic gifts and the ability to make contact with spirits of the dead, she developed an intense interest in the world of the occult. In the summer of 1969 she was formally introduced to witchcraft and spiritualism by an older family member, and has since devoted her personal life and writing career to educating the public about the ways of the Craft.
As a teenager, Gerina Dunwich (using a different nom de plume at the time) began writing poetry, short stories, magazine articles, and stage plays complete with musical scores. Her first published newspaper article, His Voice was His Vehicle, was an interview with singer/songwriter Jim Peterik from the rock n’ roll group, the Ides of March (and later, Survivor). Co-written with her cousin, Barbara Williams, it was published in October 1976.
By the spring of 1980 Gerina Dunwich was publishing a small press literary journal called Golden Isis, a one-woman operation that specialized in Goddess-inspired poetry and offbeat fiction. Its international circulation grew to nearly 3600 and it attracted subscribers from places as far away as Puerto Rico, Australia, Italy, and Japan. Circle of Shadows - a collection of Gerina’s own poetry, was self-published a decade later.
After visiting Salem, Massachusetts, in April of 1984, Gerina relocated to the North Shore of Boston, residing first in Beverly, and then in Ipswich. In the winter of 1986, she purchased the historic Moses Day Homestead - a stately 17th century Colonial house in Haverhill that had been built around the time of the infamous Salem witchcraft trials. The house, which had been featured in a local television documentary about haunted houses in the Boston area, was a hotbed of paranormal activity. Soon after moving there, Gerina experienced a vivid dream in which the spirit of the late witchcraft author Sybil Leek appeared and whispered to her that her destiny as an author was "written in the stars." The dream proved to be prophetic when, in 1987, Gerina landed her first book contract with Citadel Press. (Appropriately, the contract was dated October 31st.) The following year saw the publication of her first book, Candlelight Spells, and the start of her successful career as a prolific book author.
In December of 1993 she moved into a century-old Victorian mansion located in the quaint and historic town of Fort Covington, New York. She soon opened a small shop on High Street called "The Country Witch" (later renamed "The Calico Cat Whatnot Shop"), which sold antiques, curios and various occult supplies. (Coincidentally, the antique shop run by Sybil Leek in the New Forest was also located on a High Street.) The business proved to be instrumental in bringing together many of the area's Pagans, including several who would later become Gerina's close friends and members of her coven.
In February of 1998 Gerina Dunwich received a ministerial license from the Universal Life Church. Ironically, the first handfasting she performed as a legally ordained minister was for the younger brother of the cousin who had introduced her to witchcraft nearly thirty years earlier.
Gerina has been a guest on numerous radio talk shows throughout the United States and Canada. She has lectured and presented workshops at festivals and gatherings across the country, including the CraftWise Pagan Gathering (Waterbury, Connecticut), the Real Witches' Ball (Columbus, Ohio), and Panpipes' Pagan Day Festival (West Hollywood, California).
She is a member of the International Ghost Hunters Society, the Author’s Guild, and the Fellowship of Isis. Her biography is listed in a number of reference works, such as Who's Who in the East; Who’s Who of American Women, Personalities of America; and Crossroads: Who's Who of the Magickal Community (published by The Witching Well Education and Research Center, 1988). She is also mentioned in Anne Carson's Goddesses and Wise Women, Raymond Buckland’s The Witch Book, and other works.
In addition to being an occult author and respected spokesperson for the Neo-Pagan community, Gerina Dunwich is a freelance paranormal researcher who specializes in ghost animals and animal-related hauntings. In 2005 she founded the Paranormal Animal Research Group, which investigates haunted places and researches animal sensitivity to paranormal anomalies.

Gypsy Dream Dictionary. Raymond Buckland. Romani Gypsy. Occult. Wicca. Astral Travel

Gypsy Dream Dictionary. Raymond Buckland. Romani Gypsy. Occult. Wicca. Astral Travel
Gypsy Dream Dictionary. Raymond Buckland. Romani Gypsy. Occult. Wicca. Astral Travel

"Gypsy Dream Dictionary" by Raymond Buckland is an interesting text with a bit of Romani Gypsy insight into certain universal symbols within dreams and their possible interpretation. The book consists of a 70 page introduction by Buckland and the remainder is an A to Z listing of symbols.

Everybody dreams. Some people remember dreams more readily that others, but everyone dreams. Chances are you remember a recent one. And there are probably several other past dreams that stick in your mind, too.
But are dreams just the mind at play? No. They have meaning. The problem is, the meaning is in the symbols found in the dream. To fully understand the dream you have to understand its symbols. And one of the best ways to do this is by using Ray Buckland's Gypsy Dream Dictionary (an expanded version of Secrets of Gypsy Dream Reading).
The meanings of over 850 different symbols that commonly appear in dreams are given. Did you dream of a wide, straight road? That means things will come to you easily. Did you dream of a grasshopper? That is a bad sign, indicating financial losses to come. Did you dream of yourself wielding an axe? That means you are respected for your position. You will also learn how to pick the important symbols from your dreams in order to interpret them.
If this book just gave the meanings of dreams, it could prove vitally important to your spiritual development. But it goes beyond that and provides a basic introduction to dream sciences. In this book, you will learn the secrets of how to recognize prophetic dreams and how to make money with your dreaming abilities. You will also learn how to enjoy the experience of knowing that you are dreaming (lucid dreaming).
This book has been updated to include some important symbols which wouldn't have even been considered years ago. From TV to the internet, movies to computers, it's all here!
Now is the time for you to find out what your dreams mean. They could save your life or help you reach financial stability. Don't you think you need to find out the secrets of what is going on in your head for one-third of your life, the time you spend asleep? Then you owe it to yourself to get this book.

Clairvoyance. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. Psychic. Occult. New Age

Clairvoyance. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. Psychic. Occult. New Age
Clairvoyance. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. Psychic. Occult. New Age

I've long enjoyed the little books published by the Theosophical Society. Many are still in print through Quest Books, but used copies are plentiful as well. This little book on "Clairvoyance" by C.W. Leadbeater is one of my favorites.

‘Clairvoyance means literally nothing more than "clear-seeing," and it is a word which has been sorely misused, and even degraded so far as to be employed to describe the trickery of a mountebank in a variety show. Even in its more restricted sense it covers a wide range of phenomena, differing so greatly in character that it is not easy to give a definition of the word which shall be at once succinct and accurate. It has been called "spiritual vision," but no rendering could well be more misleading than that, for in the vast majority of cases there is no faculty connected with it which has the slightest claim to be honoured by so lofty a name.’

The creator of this Theosophical masterpiece, Charles Webster Leadbeater, was a member of the Theosophical Society, a Co-Freemason, and an esoteric writer. He was also a co-founding member of the Liberal Catholic Church. After quitting from the Anglican Church due to his interest in spiritualism, he became an associate of Annie Bessant. He was a Theosophical Society senior officer and the author of more than 60 books and pamphlets. He discusses seeing beyond the bounds of regular sight in this book. Leadbeater asserts that the ability to see things not visible to the naked eye is merely an extension of conventional perception; and that with this developed talent, one can perceive a vast variety of occurrences. A conceivable application of with is that it would be possible to perceive the tiniest particles, such as a molecule or an atom, using occultist clairvoyance. Thus, clairvoyance, defined as the capacity for extrasensory perception to provide information about an object, a person, a location, or a physical occurrence, would open up numerous research avenues.

Invisible Helpers. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. Astral Plane. Spiritualism. Clairvoyance
Invisible Helpers. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. Astral Plane. Spiritualism. Clairvoyance

Originally published in 1915 by the Theosophical Society, "Invisible Helpers" by C.W. Leadbeater takes an intriguing look at the concept of transdimensional aid coming from the Astral plane.

Invisible Helpers by English priest, spiritualist, theosophist and author Charles Webster Leadbeater, was originally published in 1915. The work looks at examples of "invisible helpers" coming to the aid of those in danger. What this implies about higher planes of existence, and whether transdimensional beings watch over us from the astral plane. Leadbeater outlines the notion that there is a universal belief in spiritual assistance in times of need, from superphysical reality. He also considers what lies in the beyond for us all.

The Chakras. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. New Age

The Chakras. Charles W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. New Age
The Chakras. C.W. Leadbeater. Theosophical Society. New Age

I'm enjoying "The Chakras" by C.W. Leadbeater. Originally published in 1927 by the Theosophical Society, many consider this to be a classic text on the subject.

Chakra (Sanskrit, "wheel") refers to the ancient Hindu concept of seven vortices of energy located on the spine from the tailbone to the crown of the head. These centers define the physical and spiritual contact points in the human body. In yoga they are bridges to higher consciousness symbolizing the journey from the material world to the divine. Alternative-medicine healers recognize them as a dynamic resource for health.

First published in 1927, this pioneering book by famed clairvoyant C. W. Leadbeater was the first to introduce the chakras to the West. With great clarity, he explains what each chakra means regarding our well-being, insight, and personal power, his color illustrations showing the chakras as they actually appear to those who can see them. Anyone can perceive the chakras, he says. We must merely become sensitive to vibrations finer than those to which we normally respond

The book has sold hundreds of thousands of copies and remains a classic.
